January
26, 2008
Greetings,
my friend! This issue focuses on goals, resolutions, and what
you can do to keep them on track.
Our
goals don't always turn out exactly as we expect. Sometimes
they give us much more than we ever dreamed; other times they
lead us in a different direction than we had planned. Either
way, setting and working towards your goals helps you consciously
express who you are as a spiritual being.
So
read on (or listen in!) and, as always, please write to me
with your thoughts, comments, and questions (jennifer@creativespirit.com).
I love hearing from you!
With
love and light!

Resolutions
that Rock
January
is already flying by. Have you made your 2008 resolutions
yet? How are they working so far?
You've
probably noticed that New Year's resolutions don't often pan
out the way you'd hoped. I'm seeing lots of articles and newsletters
this month suggesting that we throw out the resolution idea
completely.
Even
though that's like throwing the baby out with the bathwater,
there's good reason for the frustration.
We
start out the year, determined to turn over a new leaf, to
lose weight, exercise, start a business, clean out our clutter,
write a book, take up painting, singing, travel, and then
Life Happens. We get distracted: "I'll get to
it later...when I have more time."
But
the truth is that you have to make time when it comes
to your goals and dreams. If you really want something, you
have to do it whether you feel like it or not, whether you
have time for it or not, whether you think you can or not.
Actor Denzel Washington says that his father taught him to
"Do what you have to do, so you can do what you want
to do."
I
love that quote, because it's really the secret of any successful
writer, artist, actor, small business owner--anyone who consistently
achieves their goals. It's about focus, persistence, and consistency.
Staying the course.
Making
a little time each day for your goal is better than none at
all. The work that you do towards your goals adds up. It helps
to create a habit of persistence that can cross over into
many other goals down the road.
Every
road has potholes and hills to climb--every single one. And
anything worth doing is never going to be easy, even though
it may look like it's easy for someone else. As spiritual
beings, we wouldn't have it any other way. The "being"
part of you just loves challenges. Because if life were too
easy, it would be boring. And we didn't come here to be bored!
You've
heard most of this before I know,...but the real question
is how the heck do you actually move through life's demands
and distractions and "just do it"? Especially
when you don't seem to have the time or energy for it.
Here's
a tip....try consciously resetting your energy.
If
you come home tired from work, you may not have the energy
and enthusiasm to head to your computer and start writing,
for instance. But you can reset your energy by taking
"pause and refresh" moments that help give you the
momentum to keep going. These include things like stretching,
brief meditation, taking a walk, listening to music, maybe
even a hot shower. Just
ask yourself in the moment, "What do I need to do right
now to reset my energy? After your refresh break, you'll
have more energy and creativity to spend on your goal.
Remember,
the time you spend adds up. And although you may not see the
rewards right now, you will down the road. So pick your top
resolution, one that really makes you sing inside, and go
for it!
May
joy light your life!
