Talking With Your Angels
How do you start paying attention
to Spirit, in a fast-moving society that shies away from spiritual
communication? Despite changes in recent years, our culture still
has a long way to go when it comes to spirituality and awareness.
Unconsciousness is still considered safer than venturing into a
world that most people don't understand. It's OK for the likes of
Deepak Chopra and Marianne Williamson, but not for the average guy
or gal.
Most people think they don't have
the psychic gifts for clairvoyance or telepathic communication.
After all, how can you know that the inner voice you are hearing
is really from Light rather than just your imagination, your fears,
or your fatigue talking? Are you being intuitive or just crazy?
And, we often don't think we are
worthy of divine intervention--why would God bother with us when
there are much bigger problems in the world today? But each and
every Soul has great value--you are beyond price, and your life
has great meaning, whether you choose to believe it or not.
So the first step in communicating
with your angels is saying hello to yourself. If you don't value
You, you won't take the steps you need to make positive changes
in your life. For instance, you might be financially strapped, and
you ask your guardian angel for a Lotto win. But you don't win,
and you decide that your angels really don't care about you. Then,
a quiet thought comes to your mind to look for a better-paying job,
or go back to school and finish your degree. You reject it out of
fear--I can't do that, you say. If you think you never do this to
yourself, think again, because we all do it, in many different ways
each and every day. Start paying attention when you say "no"
outright to those creative ideas that come from within. If you don't
at least hear them out, you're not giving yourself a fair chance.
Saying Hello to Yourself
First
The first
step in communicating with your angels is communicating with yourself.
We all have psychic ability--the ability to see and communicate
with the non-physical world. The trouble is that most of us don't
have enough quiet space to start listening to it.
How much quiet
time do you actually have in a day? From the time the alarm clock
wakes you up in the morning, to the moment you go to bed at night,
your life is probably filled with noise. We become accustomed to
background noise, whether it is traffic, appliances, the radio,
TV, people talking, and more. True quiet is disconcerting for most
people, and yet this is where you need to start if you want to tap
into the world of Spirit on a regular basis.
Creating a "Quiet
Hour" at Home
So the first
step is setting aside some time each day for quiet reflection. Beware--this
isn't easy. You will find that your quiet time gets interrupted,
that many things start to intrude, vying for your attention. These
can be your own thoughts, or your family and friends and pets who
are unsettled by your attempts to create space for yourself. It
is new and different, so they put their attention into your space.
Firmly but gently, insist on your space.
You may need
to create a quiet corner for yourself, or set a certain hour of
the day as quiet time (no TV, telephone, radio, yelling and screaming--you
get the idea.) You will meet with much resistance, but your family
will function much more smoothly when you get it going. Even monasteries
and convents have felt the need to create Silent Hours in order
to allow space for prayer and reflection. Think about it. If those
whom we consider "spiritual" need to set aside special
quiet time, how much more do we, who are besieged by daily noise
and demands, need to have it for ourselves?
If you create
a quiet space where you can just sit and be, you create a sanctuary
for spiritual communication. Inspirations, thoughts and ideas will
come to you, and life will run more smoothly because you have space
to make changes before things go too far off track.
Calling Specific Angels
If you would
like to talk with a particular angel, say hello to that angel by
name, and ask for guidance and communication. When you ask, be willing
to entertain new ideas, new ways of being, because you may be asked
to make some changes in your life.
One thing
to keep in mind as you say hello to spirit, is that the spiritual
world is like the physical one in many ways--there are many different
kinds of beings out there, and not all of them have your best interests
at heart. When you start reflecting on change in your life, you
may hear an inner critic, telling you that you can't do it, aren't
worth it, and so forth. Or you might get more intense negative or
frightening thoughts. Keep in mind that these negative energies
are distractions that keep you from being yourself and creating
in Light. Angels will never tell you that you cannot succeed, or
ask you to do something dangerous or harmful to yourself or another
person. If you are hearing those kinds of harmful messages on a
regular basis, consider seeking the advice of an accredited counselor
to support you on your path.
Remember,
all souls have value in the eyes of God, and we are never alone.
In that quiet space you give yourself, you strengthen your connection
with all Life. You affirm your soul essence, your life purpose,
and your worth as a human being. In affirming your own worth, you
also validate all Life, and you strengthen the awareness and communication
that we all have.
