Spiritual Grounding

What is Grounding? An energetic connection between you and the center of the earth. It's one of my favorite tools. I use it every day, and I'll tell you why....

Think of grounding as a release valve for the energetic clutter you pick up during the day from the world, TV, and other people. It helps you release mental and emotional clutter out of your life and get focused. Very cool, if you want to create your life on your own terms.

Often we pick up emotions, demands, and problems from other people. This comes in the form of energy pictures or telepathic "messages" that land in your aura. You might think of it as having a very full email box and not taking the time to empty it. Or, having someone leaving their luggage in your front room!

This psychic clutter sits in your aura and chakras, and takes up valuable space. Now you may think you are being helpful to someone else by taking this kind of energy into your aura. But actually, it is very difficult to fix someone else's problem with your energy. In fact, they often will get mad at you for doing it, even though they have laid the problem in your lap. Ouch! A better way is to leave the problem with them and help them find a way to solve it on their own.

So how does grounding work exactly? Grounding releases all those problems and other people, situations, and projects that are sitting in your space. It helps you become more neutral so you don't take on quite so much. And most important of all, it makes room in your energy field (your aura) for YOU.

The act of grounding releases out what is NOT YOU and draws in what IS YOU. Grounding helps you get present and focused, and pay more attention to what is going on around you. It increases your awareness level and helps you stay more emotionally neutral in any situation: two reasons why I use it while doing readings.

I have noticed quite a few side benefits to grounding, too--you may start to feel more like yourself and have more energy and enthusiasm. Plus, life is a lot more fun!

Grounding is also a big Hello to our planet Earth--a way to be connected with our world in a deeper way.

There are many ways to ground--in different meditation practices and cultures you may find many variations. I like this one for its simplicity.

How Do You Ground?

You ground by connecting a line of energy between the center of the planet and the base of your spine (your root chakra).

The easiest way is to visualize a picture of you, sitting in your chair. Then see the Earth beneath you. Then draw a connection between the base of your spine and the center of the Earth, 2900 miles down. Just connect the dots.

You can visualize grounding as a line of energy, or a tree trunk, beam of light, ship's anchor…or even a waterfall. Any image can work well.

Try each one for a few minutes and notice how the different types of grounding feel to you. Do you have a favorite?

Remember, grounding is a tool that helps you release energy that's not yours. It helps you come more into your body. So you might notice as you ground that you are thirsty, or sleepy, or hungry. That's just because you're more in your body and more aware of how it is feeling.

Grounding Experiment:

Try grounding before you go into the store. See if you buy less or maybe different things! Or if the shopping experience feels different to you. Because grounding helps you be more centered and more yourself, it can be a great tool to use when you are shopping, or even bargain hunting. I love to use my grounding when shopping sales--it's amazing what I find sometimes when I am really paying attention!
